Although she was undeniably beautiful, I never really understood the whole "Marilyn" phenomenon.
The only actress from that era that's caught my eye, and made me search for films that she starred in, was Grace Kelly. Two very different Women, both of whose lives ended in tragedy.

You're crazy NB. I went through a Marilyn-loving phase when I was about 23. I bought some book of photos of her on the beach -- I must have stared at that for days. It was so subtly hot, all peaches and pink tones and flesh and sand and surf. The most mundane stuff is ultra sexy: Marilyn shivering in a towel; Marilyn relaxing and curled up like a cat; Marilyn saying what she typically ate for dinner (salad, and steak);. As Chuck Klosterman said in "Sex, drugs and Cocoa Puffs": Madonna can never truly be a sexual icon although she wants you to think she is. For her, sex was about power. For Marilyn, sex was about sex.

You should create a Grace thread NB!!! Grace Kelly was much more mysterious while Marilyn gave everything to her audience. Great Marilyn pictures lulum

I'm with NB on Grace vs Marilyn in the looks dept. M. just doesn't do it for me. But I did like some of those early Marilyn photos before she went blonde. I think they were on a beach. And I like her acting better than GK's.
