Gemma Ward, a unique beauty from Perth - Australia, was born on November 3rd 1987(11-03-87). She was second born to the Ward family, with an older sister named Sophie. She also has two twin younger brothers named Oscar and Henry.
In the year 2001, she was cast for the role as Heidi in a short film called "Pink Pyjamas". The film was only 28 minutes long.
Gemma was discovered at the young age of 15, when she attended the taping for 'Search for a Supermodel'. Although she didn't make it past the first three rounds, she caught the eye of an agent and was signed. "I went with my friend to a competition, and then an agent scouted me at the competition watching her. I joined the agency and started modeling for a bit in Australia." Gemma said while being interviewed. IMG began to take notice of Gemma Ward when a copy of Vogue with her on the cover landed on the desk at the agency. It wasn't long before they signed her. "I did a cover in Sydney and somehow the magazine landed on someone's desk at IMG, and they tracked me down, and asked me to sign up. And then like, ten days later, um, they told me that, um, I was going to Milan for the Prada show."
With her unique look and gorgeous figure, it's no wonder why she's graced the cover of Vogue more than five times. "I never really, like, cared about what I looked like or anything and it never crossed my mind." she stated in an interview. "I never thought that I would be doing, yanno, a job where you always had to look nice and polished and sophisticated."
There's a price to pay for modeling though. "It took a bit of getting used to, like all of the teasing and all of the hair, um, pieces and ripping them and um, all the glue that gets stuck in your hair." Gemma laughs "But um, yeah it's also part of it. I had a big messy afro the other day and had to try and wash it out and all those sorts of things can like, kind of add to. You turn up at a casting or like a fitting and they're like 'what happened to your hair?' and it's like this big mess of afro or, yanno, things like that, but it's fine."
With the future unknown, there's no telling how big Gemma Ward will be. Hopefully we'll see more of her on screen, as she's been itching to dabble her feet into acting."I wanted to be like an actor or a comedian for a little while because I was just like, always wanting to like, make people laugh and just be stupid."
Gemma has also starred in John Mayer's music video "Daughters". The release of the video aired November 6th 2004. Gemma is the focus in the music video. You can check out her appreance on John Mayer's offical website.
Gemma hasn't been in the business too long but is becoming better known by the day. With such interest in her from designer's like Prada and Miu Miu it's no wonder our girl is slowly becoming a top model. In no time she'll be a supermodel, and only time can tell how much she has to offer.
