I'm disobeying the rules again and listing movies I see in '05 both at the theater and on video.
Capote: 4/4 Singing in the Rain (1952): 4/4 Million Dollar Baby 3.5/4 Munich: 3.5/4 A Very Long Engagement 3.5/4 5X2: 3.5/4 Jarhead: 3/4 Walk the Line: 3/4 Dr. Strangelove: 3/4 The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (Wes Anderson): 3/4 March of the Penguins: 3/4 (Is this French?!) City of God: 3/4 Star Wars: Return of the Sith 3/4 Mauvais Sang: 3/4 Syriana: 3/4 The Island 3/4 (3.5 except for the first 20 minutes, which were horrible) The Big Lebowski: 3/4 American Psycho 3/4 The Aviator: 3/4 (Pretty safe and classical, but the acting is great - 'cept for Alec Baldwin.) The 40-Year-Old Virgin: 3/4 Look at me 3/4 A history of violence: 3/4 The Constant Gardener 2.5/4 Une hirondelle a fait le printemps: 2.5/4 Batman Begins 2.5/4 Ocean's 12 2.5/4 Hostage 2.5/4 King Kong: 2.5/4 The Interpreter: 2.5/4 Good Night, and Goodluck 2.5/4 Monsieur Ibrahim: 2.5/4 Kingdom of Heaven 2.5/4. I was a little let down. Eva Green was the best part about it (not looking glamorous at all; looking pale and sick but still beautiful. I love her voice, teeth and eyes. And I think she does have a lot of acting talent, you know, besides being just hot.) Orlando Bloom's character, and even Orlando's acting, were hard to believe in the part of a warrior. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: 2/4 War of the Worlds: 2/4 Wedding Crashers: 2/4 Meet the Fockers: 2/4 Wicker Park 2/4 Wow, very effective directing and soundtrack and, er, two hot chicks. Simple dialogue and acting but surprisingly entertaining througout. Mr and Mrs. Smith: 1.5/4 Coffee and Cigarettes: 1.5/4 Phantom of the Opera 1.5/4 Sideways: 1.5/4 Overrated. The actor character was flat. The plot was weak. The blonde woman and the writer character were nice and well acted, but weren't enough to make the movie more than a mildly amusing yet boring film. Anchorman: 1.5/4 Delovely: 0/4 Beautiful sets but unwatchable after the first half |

Melody:
So when you're ranking these, do you do like me, and just put all the three-star films in the same section at random? Or are your three-star films ranked among themselves? |

Re: coupdecoeur | ||

They're pretty much ranked yeah
Quote: Yeah except they butchered the film for the american release! They changed the music (it was Emilie Simon in the original soundtrack for god's sake!) and changed the voices: only one voice-over by Morgan Freeman instead of 3 actors (Romane Bohringer, Charles Berling & Jules Sitruck) "playing" the mommy, daddy and baby penguins. |

I saw "Goodnight and Good Luck" tonight. I thought the acting was great, but the plot just seemed to be lacking.

Re: French Premiere best films of 2005 | ||
|
I haven't seen Capote since it's not out in France yet but Munich sures doesn't deserve a best picture nomination!!! And "Good night and good luck" is pretty average too!
"Match Point" and that Tommy Lee Jones flick were far far better! |
